CHCC coding personnel pass national exam

SEVEN of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s coding personnel have passed the national coding certification examination.

Rose Gibbons, Renaesha Cepeda, Katelynn Duenas, Abelyn Taman, Lizelle Feria, Marissa Takai, and Marissa Quichocho, who underwent training under Ohana Coding in September, are now certified professional coders or CPC.

The certification was issued by the American Academy of Professional Coders or AAPC.

Amy Tadios also passed her CPC exam last year.

“A certified coder represents excellence in medical coding,” CHCC communications and public relations specialist Zoe Travis said.

A CPC, Travis added, reviews and assigns medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services performed by physicians and other qualified healthcare providers.

CPCs “are proficient in various services such as anesthesia, surgery, radiology, pathology, and general medicine. They are knowledgeable in medical coding and guidelines and regulations, and handle issues on claims, denials, bundling issues, and charge capture. They have knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology necessary to correctly code provider diagnosis and services.”

Travis said, “Ensuring that our coders are nationally certified is an important step in increasing the efficiency and accuracy of CHCC medical coding and billing personnel, and improving CHCC as a whole.”

Currently, CHCC has 12 medical coders.
