The ukulele festival also gave away 30 free ukulele scholarships and 10 ukuleles.

This year’s event featured professional ukulele master Blues Lee from Korea and his wife, Vivian Kim, the Korean Women’s Ensemble, and local performers.

Larry Lee, who has been teaching ukulele playing for over 20 years now, said there are many ways to learn to play ukulele.

“A lot of people just go to the internet and learn by themselves, but it [also] helps if you have some formal lessons, and on Saipan there are a number of places that offer ukulele lessons that are open to the public,” he added,

As for the ukulele festival, he said it is an annual event that “aims to promote ukulele music and its heritage by bringing people together from different age groups, sharing the love of ukulele music, creating an avenue for people of all cultures to share and bring the hafa adai-tirow spirit through music and culture.”

Larry Lee said he is also very thankful for the support from different government agencies as well as the private sector.

This year’s ukulele festival was sponsored by the Marianas Visitors Authority, DCCA/Arts Council, Island Training Solutions, IT&E, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Triple J Saipan, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Robert T. Torres Law Office, Marianas Variety, Island Image & Motion, Marianas Business Plaza, Hertz Rent a Car, Hyatt Regency Saipan, R&M Printers, KKMP Radio, and PDI.
