Saipan mayor’s office assists tent dwellers, removes typhoon debris

THE Saipan mayor’s office on Tuesday dispatched five teams to assist tent dwellers in villages and remove typhoon debris from public areas.

The mayor’s field operations director, Joann Aquino, said they dismantled 66 tents on Sunday and Monday in 14 villages as Typhoon Bualoi approached the Marianas.

After the all-clear was announced by acting Gov. Arnold I. Palacios at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the mayor’s personnel began helping tent dwellers to pitch their tents.

The tents are used by residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Super Typhoon Yutu last year.

Aquino advised community members to segregate their debris and not mix vegetation with metal and/or construction materials.

As of 12 noon Tuesday, she said they had not received any complaint regarding roads blocked by fallen trees or typhoon debris.

Aquino said their debris-removal operations will continue today, Wednesday.
