GMS Multi-Cultural Day: Embracing similarities and differences

(Press Release) — On Oct. 25, 2019, Green Meadow School celebrated Multi-Cultural Day. Students and staff dressed up in the traditional attires of various countries and different cultures.

It was the third annual celebration of a new tradition at Green Meadow School. Multi-Cultural Day aims to teach students about the value of each other’s cultures. “Strength in our community comes from embracing the similarities and differences between our cultures,” GMS said.

The middle school students came together as a whole in brilliant cultural attires and performed a dance. The students danced along with a medley of popular songs in various languages such as Indian, Spanish, Chinese, Filipino and others.

An art wall was set-up during the event showcasing paintings, drawings and photos done by students. They centered on the theme “All are welcome.” The students’ displayed their colorful interpretations of togetherness, belonging and unity.

The day ended with the middle school students creating food stalls, each highlighting a culture’s cuisine. The students and staff enjoyed cultural culinary delights such as the NMI’s coconut candy, Philippine gulaman or jelly, Japanese sushi rolls and Chinese dumplings.
