Mayor Apatang: Veterans helped make nation safe, peaceful, more powerful

TODAY, Veterans Day, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang joins the nation and the local community in honoring the sacrifices of veterans.

“Our veterans have taught us that each of us (has) a duty to ourselves and our fellow persons,” the Vietnam War veteran said.

He said many have made the ultimate sacrifice “to protect the single most important principle of humankind, and many have lived their lives with scars for paying the price.”

This is the principle that “every person must live his or her life in fulfillment of their own aspirations, dreams, happiness, peace, and opportunities — and the price of achieving them is immeasurable.”

Apatang said “our lives today are calmer and safer because of the great importance we had placed on preserving our principle. And although our lives are always in harm’s way in this day and age of sophisticated warfare, our nation has proven that it is even stronger than before.”

To all veterans who are still with us today, he added, “and to all families of our fellow veterans who are with us today, we salute you on this Veterans Day and honor your loved ones for giving us this day and every day to enjoy.”

He said they will never forget the sacrifices and deep scars the veterans have gone through to make their nation safe, peaceful, and more powerful.

“To all men and women in uniform today, we also salute you for your services to our nation. To all families who have lost their loved ones from the conflicts of today’s war, we salute you,” the mayor said.
