CHCC to use former PHI space for emergency room

THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation will utilize the space vacated by PHI Pharmacy to expand the emergency room of the Commonwealth Health Center.

“The CHCC board and CEO [Esther] Muna’s vision is to do renovation at the existing ER, utilizing space that is available, for more treatment area,” said Warren Villagomez, CHCC Public Health and Emergency Preparedness program director.

On Oct. 14, 2019, PHI Pharmacy moved out of the hospital building after the CHCC board decided not to extend the lease agreement with the pharmacy.

In an earlier interview, CHCC Chief Executive Officer Esther Muna said they had asked a health engineer to provide an estimated cost of the ER renovation.

She said the ER needs more space.

Besides renovating the ER, Villagomez said CHCC is also focusing on improving other areas, including the collection office and other offices that provide direct services to the people.
