Drug Court conducts workshop

(Press Release) — On Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, the NMI judiciary’s Drug Court met at Fiesta Resort for a team workshop. The workshop focused on the growth and efficacy of Drug Court in servicing the needs of the community with addiction treatment and recovery.

Starting out, team members shared their takeaway and lessons learned from attending the last National Association of Drug Court Professionals annual training. Following, treatment providers gave training on their services and model of operation and how such apply to Drug Court participants.

Through collaborative efforts, Drug Court staff, led by Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio and Drug Court Manager Edward Diaz, focused on evolving drug court policies and procedures, improving the participant handbook, and modifying program tracks and phases to better respond to current demands.

After the workshop, Diaz reiterated that the “Drug Court is always looking for ways to improve the program, and this workshop is one of many activities that are planned ahead.” Further highlighting the contributions of team members during the workshop, Diaz described their contributions as “multidisciplinary” and “invaluable.”

With the Drug Court now in its third year, this workshop was timely as it allowed Drug Court staff an opportunity to evaluate the efficacy of the program. As the Drug Court continues to grow and evolve, it will continue to serve the community to the best of its capabilities.
