CHISAN Kyokai Buddhist priests from the Chishakuin Temple in Kyoto, Japan visited Saipan for their 46th memorial ceremony that honors those who died during World War II, and to pray for world peace.

The 21 priests also visited Oleai Elementary School to hand out school supplies and other gifts to the students.

The group then held a memorial service at the Japanese Peace Memorial in Marpi.

The main missions of Chisan Kyokai are to visit overseas battlefields, conduct memorial services, and pray for eternal world peace, Pacific Development Inc. managing director Gordon Marciano said.

The group started visiting Saipan and Guam in 1975, he added.

Since then the group has also conducted memorial services in the Philippines, Palau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Chuuk, Papua New Guinea and other places in the Pacific, Marciano said.
