AG’s office seeks new laws to protect children

THERE should be new laws to protect children and clarify how they are treated in court, the chief prosecutor of the Office of the Attorney General said.

In an email on Monday, John Bradley said as a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team, “I will bring these important issues up for discussion.”

He added, “We need to work together as a team in protecting our children and dealing with child abuse.”

Bradley said he is “committed to improving how our system handles these cases,” and has recently assigned two special prosecutors who have experience in working with children and prosecuting child abuse and sexual assault cases.

“I am confident that law enforcement and caseworkers will improve their interviews in these cases. And that will mean better protection for our child victims, who deserve all of our best efforts,” he said.

Bradley added that “modern understanding of very young child victims suggests that they need to be treated differently than adult victims, especially during the interview stage.”
