DIONNE Monique Sakisat Torres on Thursday was sworn in as the new Board of Education student representative.
A senior student at Kagman High School, Torres said: “It is nerve wracking,” referring to her first day on the board. “But I am excited to fulfill my duties,” she added.
BOE Vice Chairman Herman Atalig administered the oath of office to Torres before the start of the regular meeting of the board at its Capital Hill office.Dionne Monique Sakisat Torres, center, is the new Board of Education student representative. Taking a leadership role is not new to Torres who was elected Student Council treasurer of her school in her freshman and junior years.
As student representative, she wants to be the “fresh voice of the youth.”
She said acting Education Commissioner Jackie Quitugua reminded her “that I’m the voice of 10,000 students — in these meetings, I will express their concerns and needs.”
