KARIDAT, through its seven-foot Christmas Giving Tree, is seeking donations for the food pantry of the charitable organization to serve children and families in need.

Laurie Ogumoro, Karidat executive director, said their goal is to ensure that the food pantry is stocked throughout the year.

“There are times when our food pantry is pretty bare. We are trying to figure out how we can keep it going and sustain it year-round,” Ogumoro said, adding that it was the Karidat board of directors that came up with the idea of a Christmas Giving Tree.

The names of those who will donate cash or canned food to the Karidat food pantry will be written on the Christmas tree ornaments.

Among the donors, so far, is 2019 Miss Marianas Shannon Sasamoto, who donated a big box containing canned food items.

Sasamoto recently conducted a three-day Thanksgiving food drive at Triple J Payless SuperFresh & Truckload in Chalan Kanoa.

She then delivered her donation to the Karidat office at the Sister Remedios Community Center in Chalan Kanoa.

Mount Carmel School, San Vicente Church, and San Jose Church are also among the donors whose names are displayed on the Karidat Christmas Giving Tree.

As for the gifts from Toys for Tots, Ogumoro said, “These will go to children who are on our list.”
