Most passengers of Skymark’s inaugural flight to Saipan are businesspersons

EIGHTY percent of the 177 passengers of the inaugural Narita-Saipan flight of Skymark Airlines on Friday are businesspersons, said John Furuya, Skymark Airlines assistant general manager for international flight preparation office.

“They are looking forward to explore business opportunities here such as travel agencies and other businesses,” he added.

The inaugural flight went very smoothly, he said as he expressed appreciation to the Commonwealth Ports Authority, the Transportation Security Administration, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

He noted that the Saipan airport lacked a passenger boarding bridge, but added that the island is still recovering from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yutu last year.

Furuya said he also learned that the local airport authorities are renovating and improving its facilities so that “every passenger coming in will enjoy the airport.”

He said Skymark is offering a special promotional fare for the Narita-Saipan flight service until the end of March.

“The tickets are almost sold out,” he added.

Furuya said Skymark decided to launch its first international flight service to Saipan because of its potential.

“Right now, we are the only airline that flies direct from Tokyo to the Marianas.” Skymark also offers in-flight meals, and accepts two pieces of baggage per passenger at no extra charge.
