Man arrested for assault with dangerous weapon, other charges

XHENG Qi Li, 25, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace after he attempted to stab another man with a kitchen knife in San Antonio on Wednesday last week.

Police stated that Li pulled up in front of the victim’s vehicle in a white Toyota Yaris behind H-Mart in San Antonio.

Li, who held a kitchen knife and was cussing at the victim, went to the driver’s side window and started punching the victim, police said.

The victim opened his door and tried to kick Li who then attempted to stab the victim, police said.

The victim said the knife “made contact with his left arm, and right forearm causing red scratches.”

The victim also told police that he experienced neck pain because of the incident.

Police said the victim’s left upper eyelid was bruised and swollen, and he had scratches on his arms and nose.

A witness told police that Li approached the victim and tried to stab him about four times. The witness added that he saw Li then throw the knife into a bush by the road. Police found the knife after a search.

The incident was reported to have taken place on Nov. 27 at past 10 a.m. The police report did not state why Li assaulted the victim. Li declined to make a statement to the police.

Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Li who was remanded to the Department of Corrections after a bail hearing on Monday.

Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig represented the defendant while Dennis Tse served as Li’s interpreter.

Assistant Attorney General Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

The judge ordered the defendant to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 10 at 1:30 p.m. and for his arraignment on Dec. 16 at 9 a.m.
