The 5Rs “Reduce, Reuse, Refuse, Respect and Rethink” campaign aims to spread environmental awareness in the Northern Mariana Islands.

Deleon Guerrero said the campaign embodies what Miss Earth NMI stands for, which is “beauty with a purpose.”

She said the “current climate crisis” requires an ongoing public awareness campaign.

“My goal is to enlist our community members, especially our youth, to be more engaged in addressing environmental issues and concerns, and contribute to a more sustainable CNMI,” she added.

The 19-year-old beauty queen noted that the 5R’s are simple and achievable tasks.

“By practicing them in our everyday lives, we will soon be part of the global cooperative effort for a greener Earth,” Leon Guerrero said.

She encourages members of the public to further educate themselves about environmental issues.

“Let’s be a part of the global efforts for sustainability. Try to slowly implement the 5R’s in our everyday lives. Little efforts multiplied by thousands can make a bigger difference,” she said.
