In an email to Variety, Dr. Luu said: “I have been away from my family for almost five years. It is time for me to return back to the U.S. mainland to be closer to family.”

She will work as a public health officer in California.

“I am grateful that the people of the CNMI have allowed me to serve them as a primary care doctor and medical director of public health for these past four years. It’s been a privilege and an honor,” Dr. Luu said.

Muna described Dr. Luu as a great doctor. “She is smart. It is a big loss for us. She will be a big asset to her next employer.”

Dr. Luu started working as a physician of CHCC in August 2015.

In May 2016, she was appointed medical director of public health.

Dr. Luu obtained her medical degree with honors from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2010.

She was a fellow in general internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 2013 to 2015.
