NMC aims for smooth transition

NORTHERN Marianas College will ensure a smooth transition when Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero, its director of Office of Institutional Effectiveness and accreditation liaison officer, leaves NMC.

NMC President Sharon Y. Hart said the important work and progress Deleon Guerrero  accomplished will continue.

“In leading NMC’s accreditation reaffirmation efforts, Galvin has been highly effective in managing and strengthening the college’s institutional-level assessment activities,” she said.

Deleon Guerrero has been appointed as new president of Mount Carmel School by Diocese of Chalan Kanoa Apostolic Administrator Father Ryan Jimenez.

Hart said Deleon Guerrero is still helping prepare the college’s self-evaluation report that will be submitted to the accrediting commission in August.

“We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with him and wish him well in his new leadership role at Mt. Carmel School,” she added.

In an interview, Deleon Guerrero said the most important responsibility of the college is preparing for the October team visit of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges as part of  NMC’s comprehensive self-evaluation for accreditation.

“The college has so far made great progress in meeting accreditation eligibility requirements and standards,” he said. “I am confident that the college will maintain that momentum.”

He noted that transition will happen in summer when school is out, so the “timing works out very well.”

Because the report is due in August, it gives him enough time to continue working with others at the college in drafting and finalizing the report throughout July until the beginning of classes in August at Mount Carmel School, he said.

“Of course, I will be working long hours throughout July as I work on both the accreditation report and preparing for the new school year at Mount Carmel, but doing so will help ensure a smooth transition for both NMC and Mount Carmel,” he added.
