NMC to complete final draft on accreditation report

THE final draft of Northern Marianas College’s comprehensive self-study report will be reviewed by the board of regents in August, NMC President Sharon Y. Hart said on Friday.

The board must approve the report before it can be submitted on Aug. 17 to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

Hart said their outgoing accreditation liaison officer, Galvin Deleon Guerrero, who recently resigned as director of institutional effectiveness, will continue to assist the college until the submission of its report.

Deleon Guerrero left NMC to become the new president of Mount Carmel School.

Last Friday, Deleon Guerrero was supposed to update the regents about the accreditation report but the meeting was cancelled.

Hart said NMC will soon  announce a vacancy for the position left by Deleon Guerrero.

She said it does not mean that the successful applicant for the position of institutional effectiveness director will also be the liaison accreditation officer.

She said Deleon Guerrero only took it because he was willing to perform additional tasks for NMC.

“It doesn’t mean his replacement is going to be taking that same responsibility,” she added.

Hart said one of their teams has been working on the narrative that responds to the questions posed by ACCJC regarding leadership and governance.

The team, she added, met with the ad hoc committee of the board of regents to review the draft and to recommend changes.

The changes are now being incorporated into a new draft, she added.
