NMC Foundation’s contractor prepares for final report

(NMC) — Strategies for Philanthropy has been working on the Planning Study for the NMC Foundation. This study is to help in establishing a newly incorporated organization which will serve as the fund raising arm for Northern Marianas College. In addition, the study is to create an infrastructure, plan and strategies to enhance the fundraising.

The final report and all supporting documents will be presented to the board in early November.

The company has completed the first ever draft of the roles and responsibilities of the foundation board members. This draft has been sent to the board for their review.

Strategies for Philanthropy has also conducted 18 confidential interviews with community leaders to assess their views about the college, the foundation, and their views for the future of the college and its fund raising efforts. These interviews will be summarized in the final report and are helping to establish the new foundation’s future direction.

According to Strategies for Philanthropy CEO Steve West, “This is the first time during the college’s 30 years these people can remember being visited by the college in this manner. They are pleased to be part of it and look forward to receiving further information regarding the outcomes of this study.”

The company has identified various constituencies — including past donors and college alumni — and the materials needed for the creation and input of a centralized database which has not been in existence previously.

The company is also working on the first ever “Case for Support,” which is a document that is the justification for support of the college.

The company has also drafted several policies and procedures which have not been in place previously.

“We are extremely pleased with Mr. West’s work, the areas he has identified where we need to improve and the pace at which he has been able to accomplish a great deal of work,” said Alan Markoff, NMC Foundation interim president.

“We know there is much work to be done, and we will continue to look forward to the completion of many of the projects he has already initiated,” Markoff said.

In addition to completing much of the work already mentioned, West is also helping to develop strategies needed to recruit new board members. He will also be developing additional policies and procedures.

He will also be researching and reviewing the memorandum of understanding of other community colleges and public universities with their related organizations and foundations.
