GIVEN another fresh mandate to serve on the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council, Ramon B. Camacho said this time, the mayor of the Northern Islands should appoint the council’s third member.
Camacho and former council chairwoman Antonia M. Tudela were the only candidates for the three-seat council.
In the previous election two years ago, Camacho and Eric Demapan Diaz were the only candidates and Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores later appointed Ralph Yumul as the third member.
Since the council has two members from Saipan, Camacho said the mayor of the Northern Island should appoint the third member.
Henry Hofschneider, Flores’s adviser, in a separate interview said the mayor will meet with Northern Island Mayor Tobias Aldan to discuss the appointment of the third member.
“I know we are professional enough to agree on that issue,” Hofschneider said.
The CNMI Constitution requires the mayor to appoint a member in case of vacancy on the municipal council.
Camacho, for his part, said he will work for the community.
“I thank my constituents for their vote of confidence,” he added.
He encourages community members to get involved in anti-crime activities by signing up with the Neighborhood Watch Task Force.
The village revitalization program, he added, also needs strong support from residents.
“These programs help promote not only the safety of the people but also their health,” he said.
