Customs and Border Protection officers donate toys

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Saipan International Airport participated in their third annual donation to Toys for Tots. In 2010, CBP donated to the Marianas Health Services and Karidat Toy Drive; last year they decided to donate to Salvation Army’s Toy Drive. This year, with more participation and new ideas as to how to raise funds for the events, CBP donated to both Marianas Health/Karidat and Salvation Army toy drives.

CBP Community Outreach members would normally solicit their colleagues for personal donations for various events such as last summer’s Feds Feed Families food drive and their annual participation at the Halloween Trunk or Treat. But beginning with this year’s toy drives, the members decided to solicit their colleagues to donate items to be sold at two Rummage Sales as well as profits from their snack shop at their work-site.

In May of this year, CBP lost one of their own in a tragic drowning accident here on Saipan. The late CBP Officer Alan Aninzo was a member of CBP Saipan’s Community Outreach team. As a very kind gesture, Alan’s parents donated a considerable amount of money to this year’s Toys for Tots. Alan’s memory continues to live with those who were close to him and the CBP officers look forward to participating in more community events in the future.

Various fundraising events are being planned at this time. All proceeds will go to community charitable events. Please support their efforts in contributing to our great community.
