(MVA) — Lemuel Bunao of Saipan bested 13 other competitions to win the Pie Eating Competition on Saturday, May 11, at the 15th Annual Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival & Beer Garden at American Memorial Park.
The excitement continues this coming Saturday, May 18, with another full night of live entertainment and mouth-water choices. Maluw Band kicks off the fun at 6 p.m., followed by Koblerville Umang at 7 p.m. and Anna Glushko Academy at 7:30 p.m. Atakak Crew takes the stage at 8:30 p.m., followed by Cab Dancers at 9 p.m. and Tattoo closing out the night at 9:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the NMI Bartenders Cocktail Competition “Bacardi Superior Mojito Cocktail Challenge” kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, with contenders being judged on originality, taste, showmanship, neatness, and audience impact. Last year’s crown went to Ronnie Guevarra of Coral Ocean Point Resort.
“Taste of the Marianas is the perfect place to pick up an affordable, delicious dinner on Saturday night,” said Marianas Visitors Authority community projects manager Martin Duenas. “The annual NMI Bartenders Cocktail Competition is always very popular and should draw a big crowd this weekend, as well.”
The Taste of the Marianas is held every Saturday evening in May as part of the month-long celebration of Tourism Month in the Northern Mariana Islands. The festival offers international cuisine at affordable prices by 16 hotels and restaurant vendors, non-stop live entertainment on the main stage, nightly contests on the secondary stage, and arts and crafts sales.
Dinner and dessert choices are offered every Saturday by Fiesta Resort & Spa, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, Canton Restaurant, Furusato Restaurant, Sierra Pearl Shakes, Capricciosa/Tony Roma’s, D’Elegance Café, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Hula Girl/3’s, Thai House Restaurant, Poon’s Restaurant, Tropical Chill, Coral Ocean Point Resort, Mariana Resort & Spa, and Saipan World Resort.
