Lt. Gov. Jude U. Hofschneider, in his remarks, said over the years, the people of Tinian have always had to buy merchandise on Saipan.

“Today is a special day because finally, with the commitment shown by Joeten Enterprises, this store has become a reality,” Hofschneider said.

Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz said the opening of Joeten Ace Hardware yesterday signals the end of a tedious and expensive ordeal for the people of Tinian who have long had to buy animal feed, hardware supplies, construction materials, cars and other merchandise on Saipan.

“On behalf of the people of Tinian, we thank Joeten Enterprises for their confidence in setting up a store on the island,” Dela Cruz said.

He said the people of Tinian will no longer have to pay for airfare to and from Saipan, car rental, meals and freight charges. They won’t have to wait for the stuff they buy to be delivered by boat. All these considerations have limited people’s buying power and their ability to get the things they need when they need them.

Dela Cruz said the decision to open an Ace Hardware opeartion on this island was certainly timely in light of the completion of the survey of the West San Jose Homestead area.

“We are hopeful that clearing the road and establishing the utilities and rights of way will be addressed by the Department of Public Land. With that done, many of our people will be able to begin construction of new homes and an Ace Hardware here will make it much easier for them to do so,” Dela Cruz said.

After Rev. Father Jesse Reyes blessed the building and the store, the mayor became the first customer, buying a wheelbarrow.

Joeten Enterprises board member Norman T. Tenorio officially welcomed the guests, who, like the mayor, immediately began shopping at the newly opened facility and availed themselves of special 20 percent discounts on certain items.

Shoppers were also given raffle tickets upon entering the store and lucky ticket holders went home with various prizes including a generator, a trail bike, a warmer tray, wall clocks, and other items.

Attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Joeten family representatives including Joeten Ace Hardware president Priscilla Tenorio, wholesale manager Clarence Tenorio Jr., J.C. Tenorio Enterprises president Clarence Tenorio Sr., Somia Quan, J.C. Tenorio Enterprises corporate special project manager Bo Palacios who was the event emcee, elected board members and other island leaders as well as community members and even U.S. Marines.

The store’s eight staff members were also introduced to the public.

Joeten Ace Hardware Tinian carries a wide variety of paint, household items, hardware, construction materials, appliances, and more. It is located inMarpo Heights a few minutes from the airport and will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
