NMC, she said, has just signed an articulation agreement with the university.

“We are proud to be partnering with the University of Hawaii at Hilo through this articulation agreement so that our students can transfer seamlessly without having to repeat competencies they have already achieved,” she added.

Hart said the college has articulation agreements with other institutions and is working to execute additional agreements with more institutions.

“Our graduates transfer on to many other colleges and universities all over the world so it’s important that we support them as much as possible by helping to facilitate the transfer process,” she added.

NMC Dean of Academic Program and Services Barbara Merfalen said the agreement will allow NMC students to transfer easily to UH Hilo and to continue their educational journey beyond the associate-degree level.

She said under the agreement, students who have graduated with associate degrees from NMC will not have to repeat or take additional general education requirements at University of Hawaii at Hilo except in programs that require additional coursework.

Students who have not yet graduated with associate degrees can have their college-level courses transfer as general education requirements, an elective, or an exemption or replacement for a required course at UH Hilo, she added.

NMC offers several degree programs, including a bachelor of science degree in education (emphasis on elementary education, early childhood education, special education, or rehabilitation and human services), associate degrees in business, business administration (emphasis on accounting, business management, or computer applications), liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and hospitality management. NMC also offers online certificate programs through ed2go, which offers a wide range of courses.

Registration for NMC’s Spring 2014 semester begins next week.
