NMC and PSS sign partnership agreement

THE Public School System has partnered with Northern Marianas College to further expand the quality of services they offer to their students and provide better learning opportunities, Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan said.

Sablan said the NMC Board of Regents and the Board of Education have signed a memorandum of agreement recently and will come up with a work plan by the end of the year.

They will include administering a college placement test for PSS seniors.

Starting a teacher academy in partnership with NMC is another proposed project which will aim to encourage PSS students to become educators.

Sablan said they also want to allow their students, starting in their sophomore year, to take college classes which can be credited in the future.

These college classes can be completed while the students are still in high school.

“This will give the students an opportunity to get an AA degree at the same time as they graduate from High School,” Sablan said.

PSS may implement this program in January, she added.

Students who are interested in pursuing a degree at NMC while still in high school need to pass the college placement test.

“So we are also working on that,” Sablan said.
