SENATE President Ralph DLG. Torres says he is against the proposed military exercises on Pagan and will urge Gov. Eloy S. Inos to also oppose them.
Torres said a resolution has already been drafted .
“We have the resolution and we will entertain it in our next session to encourage the governor to oppose any build up on Pagan. I believe the action taken by the military and the Department of Defense is inappropriate. I disagree with the way they have approached this issue,” Torres said in an interview yesterday.
“First of all they didn’t even ask us whether we agreed or not with the military buildup there. There was no consultation. Saying ‘Can we build up there?’ or ‘We’d like to build up’ is very different from saying ‘We’re building up there so what are your comments?’ ”
Torres also made some comments on the current airline service in the CNMI.
He said United Airlines has provided very poor service and is unreliable.
“I hope Delta can come in and do feasibility studies. I will ask the Commonwealth Ports Authority to offer incentives to any other airline coming into Saipan and Rota and providing bigger charter flights to Tinian,” he added.
