YAP Lt. Gov.-elect James Yangetmai reported for his last day of work as a teacher at Hopwood Junior High School on Tuesday, principal Jonas Barcinas told Variety yesterday.

“We will miss him. He is a good person and teacher. The students, the faculty and all of us will surely miss him,” Barcinas said.

Yangetmai is the running-mate of Tony Ganngiyan, and the tandem topped the recently held Yap gubernatorial election.

They will succeed Yap Gov. Sebastian Anefai and Lt. Gov. Anthony Tareq.

Yangetmai has been a Hopwood social studies teacher for three and a half years and he also taught at Marianas High School from March 1985 to June 2011.

Barcinas congratulated Yangetmai, noting that he will be a good Yap leader.

“He is a good teacher and a very professional person. I would like to wish him well in his new endeavor. We know that he will continue doing an excellent job as a leader,” he said.

Yangetmai’s class has been temporarily taken over by other teachers, Barcinas said, adding that they are speeding up the process of hiring a new teacher.

Barcinas said the position will be filled within this week.

“We wish James the best of luck,” he added.
