Jian Joyner is Miss Marianas 2015

JIAN H. B. Joyner, daughter of Dr. John B. Joyner and Yasuko H. Joyner, was crowned as Miss Marianas 2015 during the pageant at the Hyatt’s SandCastle on Thursday night.

The teary-eyed, 20-year-old Jian said she was so happy to win the crown.

“I didn’t expect it after I went blank for a moment at the final question and answer,” she added.

“My message to aspiring beauty queens out there is never to quit, just keep going. Thank you to all who supported me.

A sophomore majoring in liberal arts at Northern Marianas College and a tutor at Salty Saipan Corporation, Jian Joyner also won the Stellar Star Best in National Costume and Best in Swimsuit awards.

First runner up was Dana Marie Martinez Manglona who also won the Miss Photogenic and Best in Evening Gown awards.

Manglona told the Variety that she, too, was very happy.

“Crown or not, this is still a very big victory for me. I want to thank everyone who helped me out and supported me.”

Joanna Marie G. Havarro completed the Top Three.

The IT&E Texter’s Choice Award went to the contestant who garnered the greatest number of votes from IT&E texters — Daysia San Nicolas.

Irene Torres was named Miss Friendship.

Riana R. McCale from Koblerville completed this year’s lineup of six contestants.

The judges were John Compton, CEO of IT&E Guam and CNMI; Helene Lizama Manning, Miss Northern Mariana Islands Universe 1998; and Merci C. Sablan., sales associate at Triple J Motors and a beauty advisor at T Galleria.

Prizes

Miss Marianas Jian Joyner won a crown, a trophy and a sash as well as flowers from Island Touch, $1,000 cash from Stellar Marianas, a $1,000 scholarship from Stellar Marianas, an Anne Klein watch from Pacifica Insurance, the use of a brand new 2015 Hyundai Elantra Sports car for a year from Triple J Motors, an all-expense paid trip to compete at the 2015 Miss Earth pageant and the 2015 Miss International Pageant from Delta Air Lines and the Marianas Visitors Authority, all-expense paid trips to approved MVA off-island events, a brand new cellphone with one-year unlimited service and data from IT&E, a beauty basket from Dove Beauty Products, a one-year membership and personal trainer at Gold’s Gym Saipan, a one-year subscription to Marianas Variety, beauty gifts from T Galleria, a professional model portfolio from Stellar Marianas, a four-piece luggage set from Stellar Marianas, a $100 gift certificate from Iridescent Boutique, a one-year all-expense paid representation at approved CNMI-wide events and an opportunity to create and implement a community project under her name and with the assistance of Stellar Marianas.

Joyner also took home a trophy and $100 cash each from Stellar Marianas for winning the Best in Swimsuit and Best in National Costume as well as beauty baskets and a model portfolio from Iridescent Boutique.

First runner up Dana Manglona won a trophy and $800 in cash from Stellar Marianas, flowers from Island Touch, and beauty baskets from Dove and T Galleria. As Miss Photogenic, Manglona also won a trophy from Stellar Marianas and a photo session with Daisuke Yanai, the pageant’s official photographer.

Miss Friendship Irene Torres received a trophy and $100 in cash from Stellar Marianas, flowers from Island Touch, and beauty baskets and gifts from Dove and T Galleria.

Special guest performers for the night were Jason Hudy of SandCastle, Nikita Mendiola of Tinian, 2014 Miss Marianas Teen Gianna Camacho, Sakura Imaya and the Saipan Music and Dance Studio.

Hosted by Stellar Marianas, the island’s non-profit pageant and talent group, this year’s pageant featured the contestants in a Hollywood vintage-themed pageant night.

“We were extremely happy to see so many people come out to support the pageant,” Stellar Marianas president Laila Boyer said. “We had a packed house and we are grateful for the support of the community.”

She said they are excited for Jian Joyner “who will be having a great year ahead as she prepares for an international competition while bring active in community events.”

The sponsors this year were Delta Air Lines, Triple J, the Marianas Visitors Authority, D&Q International Distributors, Dove, Joeten Enterprises, Marpac Inc., Pacifica Insurance Underwriters Inc., Bud Light, Grey Goose Vodka, Iridescent Boutique, Marianas Variety, IT&E, Gold’s Gym, KKMP, EY, T Galleria, Island Florals, Chelu Photos, Daisuke Yanai and On Da Raks.

The master and mistress of ceremonies for the event were Robert Mojica and Mylyn Wood.
