COMMONWEALTH Utilities Corp. Executive Director Gary Camacho said the water division continues to remove defective and damaged water meters.
This week, he said they expect to take out 112 damaged and inaccurate meters used in flat-rate services.
“There is lots of digging required to correct the problems,” Camacho said.
Of the 112 meters, 10 are assigned to commercial ratepayers while 102 are used by residential customers, he added.
As part of their “aggressive effort” to reduce water loss, they have to remove inaccurate and damaged meters, he said.
According to Camacho, CUC has also formed a crew that addresses complaints regarding water meters.
The crewmembers work on extended hours, including Saturday, to address meter problems, he said, adding that in the past weeks, they’ve received 120 water leak complaints. As of Monday, 93 leaks had been repaired.
Camacho said they also installed 18 new water connections, mostly with commercial establishments.
