Motheread/Fatheread ‘Carnival of Literacy’ holds completion ceremonies

(Press Release) — On Saturday, May 13, 2017, the CNMI Motheread/Fatheread held a beautiful completion ceremony at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s Video Teleconference Center.

There were 4 adults who participated in the Adult Course which began in March, and classes were facilitated by Parent Trainer Rita Demapan and participants included Renita A. Win, Myoungah Lee, Stephen Sablan, and Shivonne Castro. The Children’s Read Aloud Class was facilitated by Parent Trainer and Program Coordinator Viola Deleon Guerrero and volunteer Therese Zheng. There were two children who completed the class — Jalen A. Win and Ara Choi. Congratulations families! And we look forward to hosting more classes this summer with you, CNMI!

The CNMI Motheread/Fatheread Family Literacy Program will now like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate the families who have completed the Spring 2017 Carnival of Literacy. This 8-week fun-filled family literacy class included financial literacy seminars in partnership with the Bank of Hawaii (Saipan branch), collaborations with Public Libraries and the CNMI Public School System. Congratulations to the following families for your participation:

• January 24, 2017 completion ceremony at the Tinian Public Library in partnership with the Department of Public Health Maternal & Child Health Bureau’s HOME Visiting Program 13 parents who participated in this 8 week-long class session, included the following: Akhi Akter, Tanjida Rahaman, Ria Khan, Marites Hossain, Antonetta Harjani, Raelynn Iglesias, Lorelyn V. Estrada, Janice Mapeso, Julian Santos, Sumi Akter, Kailee Lizama, Patricia Aguon, and Joseph Estrada. The adult class was facilitated by Parent Trainer Marvieluz Syed. 21 Children completed the Story Exploring Class facilitated by Instructor Mary Santos. The graduating children were as follows: Ismail Imran V. Hossain, Brayden Santos, Amina Fajamida V. Hossain, Isaac V. Hossain, Anan Khan, Jubada Jahan Dhali, Israt Jareen J. Syed, Nusrat Jeren J. Syed, Andrew Harjani, Ogan Ayuyu, Janna Mikaela B. Mapeso, Luke Alvin Estrada, Luis James Estrada, Hailey Iglesias Santos, LJ Lizama, Kuwalani Lizama, Lamiya Akter, Mahzabin Akter, Mahrabin Akter, Nazario Borja, Jr., and Ezekiel Borja. Special thank you to volunteers Julie Sablan, Tracey Cabrera, Jacob Delacruz, Micheal Mapeso, and Iqbal Syed who greatly assisted in the TPL class.

• February 22, 2017 completion ceremony at San Vicente Elementary School Adult participants:

The Motheread/Fatheread Program is ecstatic to announce the start of our Summer Family Literacy Program. Adult Courses are free and open to the Public. Adults are invited to bring their children ages (4 to 11 years old), our Award-Winning Story Exploring Class will be offered for Cycle 1 and Cycle 3). Registration is required. Children ages 6-12, can avail of Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s Summer Reading Program “Build a Better World,” provided that Child must have a valid JKPL card with no pending fees or fines (June only Cycle 3). The location of the Motheread/Fatheread Summer Program will be held exclusively at your friendly Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in Susupe, Saipan.
