Governor to meet with DPS chief, Rota director

GOVERNOR Ralph Torres on Friday said he will talk with Department of Public Safety Commissioner Robert Guerrero and DPS Rota Director Eusebio Manglona this week to resolve the dispute between the two officials.

The Rota director has complained, among other things, that he is getting limited support from the DPS central office while the DPS commissioner said Manglona travels to Saipan a lot and writes “novels” instead of calling him directly to express his concerns.

“Issues like this could be resolved internally,” the governor said.

“Now that the issue is out in public, it is my obligation to make sure we address…concerns and what transpired and where we move from here on.”

Torres said he has communicated with the Rota director and DPS commissioner, and both are willing to “sit down and make things work and go from there.”

The meeting will be held on Saipan.

The governor also said that Rota Mayor Efrain Atalig is welcome to join the meeting.

Asked if the DPS commissioner does not give enough support to DPS Rota, Torres said “I’ve seen the commissioner’s support, and that’s why I’m bringing them in from Rota, to see what kind of support they expect and what support the local municipality is obligated to give.”

Rota lawmakers have also arranged a meeting with Manglona and Guerrero.
