Arts Council organizer Fay McMahon said the competition will have five slots and will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Garapan Fishing Base.

Saibok is a popular Chamorro way of cooking a dish in coconut milk.

McMahon said the Saipan mayor’s office is hosting the competition while the Arts Council will provide the prizes: $200 for first prize, $150 for second prize and $100 for third prize.

McMahon said the cookout competition is one way to help promote the traditional Chamorro way of cooking.

During the Liberation festivities, she said the Arts Council will have its own booth to be used by local artists to display and sell their artwork.
