Saipan mayor’s office: Vendor interested in Sugar King Park food court

A VENDOR is interested in opening an internet café and gift shop at the food court in Sugar King Park, special assistant to the Saipan mayor Henry Hofschneider said.

The park facilities are available to any revenue-generating enterprise, he said, but added that they may also consider non-profit organizations whose aim is to provide community services.

He said they may also use one of the eight units of the food court as a satellite headquarters for the mayor’s office.

According to Hofschneider, they are now finalizing the agreement with the vendor who wants to use four units for his business. He said they will provide more information to the public once an agreement has been signed.

Since the completion of the food-court project in Feb. 2009, the facility has not been used.

Hofschneider said they have been collaborating with the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. which oversees the federal community development block grants that funded the construction of the food court. NMHC has said that it will take over the facility if the mayor’s office fails to operate it.
