Former USPS employee in mail-theft case enters into plea agreement

FORMER U.S. Postal Service employee Mark Champaco Tyquiengco, who is accused of stealing a package from the Chalan Kanoa Post Office in March 2017, has entered into a plea agreement with the U.S. government.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto, the prosecutor, asked the District Court for the NMI last week to schedule a change-of-plea hearing for Tyquiengco.

Chief Judge Ramona Manglona granted the motion and set the hearing for Aug. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m.

The plea agreement remains sealed.

The prosecution did not seek detention for the defendant who was also allowed by the court to travel to Guam.

Tyquienco earlier pled not guilty to the charges of mail theft and theft of mail by a postal service employee.
