Ex-USPS employee pleads guilty to theft of mail

FORMER U.S. Postal Services employee Mark Champaco Tyquiengco pled guilty to theft of mail, Thursday, in federal court.

District Court for the NMI Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy presided over the change-of-plea hearing and recommended that Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona accept Tyquiengco’s guilty plea.

Attorney Charity Hodson appeared for Tyquiengco while Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto represented the U.S. government.

Judge Kennedy advised Tyquiengco that the district court judge may reject the plea agreement if the judge does not feel this was an appropriate resolution to the charges.

According to the indictment, on or about March 6, 2017, Tyquiengco did knowingly and unlawfully steal a package intended to be conveyed by mail and addressed to a Saipan resident.

The indictment also states that Tyquiengco did knowingly and unlawfully embezzle a package intended to be conveyed by mail to the same Saipan resident.
