NMI has new Marine recruitment officer

He has attended eight weeks of recruiting school at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, and was a non-commissioned officer in-charge for Base G6 at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 2014.

This is his first assignment in the CNMI.

“I just want to get back with the people on my home island,” he said, adding that he immediately grabbed the opportunity to serve in the CNMI after learning about it.

Reyes, 26, attended William S. Reyes Elementary School, Hopwood Junior High School and Marianas High School.

He is the son of Dennis Masga Reyes and Germaine Rosario Torwal.

“It’s nice to be back home,” he said, adding there are lots of opportunities in the Marine Corps that he wants to share with the local youth.

He said he has started meeting with school officials regarding the Marines’ recruitment program.

On Monday, he met with MHS principal Cherlyn Cabrera and school counselors.

He said he is still getting instructions from Deleon Guerrero while the transition period is ongoing.

He added that he will continue the programs his predecessor has implemented to attract more prospective Marine recruits on island.
