Hopwood launches after-school program

HOPWOOD Middle School has launched an after-school program, which has two segments: “Making Proud Choices” and “Healthy Decisions.”

The program started on Sept. 6 and will run until November.

School principal Rizalina Liwag said Making Proud Choices is mostly about educating the students about the changes in their bodies. “Now that they are adolescents, they have to be aware of the changes and how they are going to respond to those changes.”

This segment of the program is conducted every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

The other segment of the program involves making healthy decisions. “It is about making the students aware of the types of food that are healthy for the body,” Liwag said. “We also encourage them to stay drug-free and to stay away from chewing betelnut and other things that may harm their body.”

This segment is held on every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

Liwag said five teachers and a counselor are the presenters for each segment.
