Emon Lodge 179 donates cash to Harvey victims

EMON Lodge No. 179 of the Free and Accepted Masons on Saipan led by Worshipful Master Wilfredo G. Ching donated a check worth $500 to the Hurricane Harvey victims, particularly the former CNMI residents in Houston.

The check was received by Rep. Ed Propst on Tuesday at the freemason lodge in Chalan Kanoa.

“Each of our members voluntarily gave from their heart,” Ching said, adding that they are thankful to the U.S. government for helping Saipan when it was struck by Typhoon Soudelor in Aug. 2015.

As of Tuesday, Propst said they had collected $1,300 in cash donations from community members on Saipan.

“This is a substantial amount,” Propst said, referring to the freemasons’ donation. He also thanked them for their generosity.

Propst said they have collected 15 boxes of assorted canned goods that are ready to be sent to Houston this Friday.

The relief effort on Saipan for the hurricane victims in Houston was initiated by Propst and Rep. Vinnie Sablan with Houston Association of Marianas Islanders vice president Jennifer White Aguon.

Propst said they continue to accept donations.
