Governor to sign FY 2018 budget today

GOVERNOR Ralph Torres will sign the 2018 budget bill today, Tuesday, at the multi-purpose center. The new fiscal year starts on Oct. 1, 2017.

Variety learned that some items of the budget bill will be vetoed.

Senate President Arnold Palacios told Variety on Friday that it is the governor’s prerogative to veto some items.

Palacios, however, said he hopes that the governor will approve some of the Senate’s recommendations.

The governor on Monday morning met with Attorney General Edward Manibusan to discuss the $145.2-million budget bill.

This includes $1 million for land judgments, $8.1 million for Rota and $8.4 million for Tinian.
