America Needs Fatima invites community to join public rosary on Oct. 14

THE community is invited to join the centennial celebration of the last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima by praying the rosary at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Chalan Kanoa on Oct. 14, 2017 from noon to 3 p.m.

Lillian Camacho, island-wide rally captain of America Needs Fatima, said other cities in the United States will hold similar public prayers.

Catholics believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in Fatima, Portugal in May 1917 and her sixth and final apparition happened there on Oct. 13 of the same year.

“In the CNMI, we are anticipating that more people will join the public rosary,” Camacho said in a phone interview. “People need to join the event especially because of what is happening around us — natural disasters and threats to world peace.”

She said they are not expecting miracles, but the public rosary will remind the community about the conversion of 70,000 people, including atheists and anti-Catholics that took place on Oct. 13, 1917 when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared for the last time in Fatima.

In May, the Kristo Rai Parish held a special chain of prayer in celebration of the centennial of Our Lady of Fatima’s apparition.

In honor of Our Lady of Fatima, members of the Legion of Mary and the community took turns in reciting 2,000 Hail Marys.

Brother Gary Orpiano, Kristo Rai parish coordinator, said they prayed for peace and justice and the prevention of abortions. They also prayed for those addicted to drugs, alcohol, flesh or any kind of vice as well as for the healing of those who were suffering from sickness and illness. They likewise prayed for the island of Saipan, its people and government leaders.
