Pat Tenorio hands Jays 1st win in SBL U25

SHORTSTOP Pat Tenorio’s pass to first baseman Kier Agda frustrated the Pirates’ attempt to tie the ball game to give the Blue Jays their first victory in Saipan Baseball’s 25-and-under Summer/Fall League on Thursday last week.

The Jays put up an early with unearned runs in the top of the first inning as center field Dave Matagolai singled before taking the home plate on a wild pitch, and Tenorio, scored the second run on a passed ball.

Tenorio drove in a run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the second inning.

Agda and Tenorio kept the Blue Jays’ defense strong to hold the Pirates scoreless in three straight innings.

Starting pitcher Ben Lizama struck out and allowed only one run out of three base hits and the Blue Jays nailed the Pirates to one run after five complete innings.

Lizama hit the pitching leaders’ chart with 1.84 ERA. He pitched 15.2 innings in four games.

Tenorio took a go-ahead run on a wild pitch to widen the gap again in the top of the fifth inning.

Catcher Lorenzo Sebaklim hit a single in the bottom of the sixth inning, the, stole his way to the home plate to trim down the Blue Jays’ lead.

The Pirates tightened their defense and blanked the Blue Jays in the two remaining innings, with KJ Deleon Guerrero completing his seven-inning game with 11 strike outs.

Center fielder Devyn Flores hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to narrow down the lead again.

But 6-3 play foiled the Pirates’ attempt to catch up, handing the Jays, 4-3 victory, their first in the season.
