Over 150 join 33rd Annual Turkey Trot

OVER 150 runners in various age groups have registered to join the 33rd Annual Mt. Tapotchao Turkey Trot on Nov. 23.

Hosted by the Northern Marianas Athletics in celebration of the Thanksgiving Day, the Turkey Trot, as tradition, will kick off at Lower Base at 6 a.m. and ends on Mt. Tapotchao.

The 4.2-mile uphill run to island’s highest peak draws athletes and enthusiasts, young and old, every year.

“We encourage everyone to come and join us continue promoting wellness trough run walk and crawl,” NMA General Secretary Robin Sapong said.

The age categories include 12-and-under, 17-and-under, open, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 plus.

The top winner in each age group will get a turkey from our Joeten Enterprises. In addition, participants will also get a chance to win some great raffle prizes from NMA’s other partners in sports.

Sapong also said that with the ongoing road repair on Isa Drive going to Capital Hill, the safety of the participants is high priority.

“So we kindly encourage everyone to keep on alert while running up especially at areas with deep excavations. We would also like to as motorists to be patient and to give way to the runners. Please be cautious on the road,” Sapong said.

For those who have not registered as of today, site registration will begin at 5 a.m. with $10 and $5 entrance fees for adults and U18 runners, respectively.

“Thank you all very much for supporting our Annual Turkey Trot Run for the past 32 years. We look forward to seeing you all this Thursday. Happy Thanksgiving,” Sapong said.
