GSM Masters regain strength in rout vs. Bears

THE GSM Masters regained a strong stance in Saipan Baseball’s Masters League as they routed the Papa Bears, 15-5 on Wednesday at the Francisco Tanko Palacios Baseball Field.

With third baseman Mike Sablan driving in two runs with a single, designated hitter Jerry Ayuyu hitting an RBI single and center fielder John Terlaje sending Sablan home on a walk, the GSM Masters took the lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Tony Flores had his first strike out to help the Masters blank the Bears in the opening half of the inning.

The Papa Bears cut the lead in the top of the second as designated hitter Ben Cabrera and catcher Emory Fitial hit an RBI single apiece. They also got back at the Masters blanking them in the bottom of the second inning.

Third baseman Jojo Attao tied the ball game with an RBI single before the Papa Bears were held off with two outs in a row in the top of third.

This gave the GSM Masters the chance to stretch their lead in the bottom of the third with Ayuyu blasting an RBI double and Terlaje, an RBI single.

Ton Camacho singled before left fielder Rodney Camacho drove him in on a sacrifice hit to help the Papa Bears trim their deficit again in the top of the fourth.

But that was it for them.

The Masters held them runless in two straight innings with relieve first baseman Fred Kaipat tagging three base runners in a row.

Left fielder Zack Igisomar launched a two RBI double, Bill Camacho added an RBI single and Terlaje drove in a run on sacrifice fly, and the GSM Masters widened the gap in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Another sacrifice fly from catcher Mark Flores in the fifth, and an RBI single from Terlaje, and the GSM Masters secured their victory.
