THE Tanapag Falcons rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the IPI Pirates, 9-3 and secure a championship slot in the Saipan Baseball’s U25 Summer/Fall League game last night at the Francisco Tanko Palacios Baseball Field.

Catcher KJ Deleon Guerrero orchestrated a double play in the bottom of the third, while starting pitcher Nate Camacho threw his first strike out in the second to help the Pirates nail the Falcons to just one run in four innings. Camacho ended the season with 3.13 ERA, throwing 11.2 in four games.

Deleon Guerrero hit a double in the top of the first inning before shortstop Franco Nakamura drove him in with a single to put up the lead.

But the Falcons tightened their defense as well, as Frankie Lieto who kept a steady record in the pitching start with 2.63 ERA in the final stats, struck out two of his seven to shut the Pirates out in the top of the second inning.

Lieto tops the strike out chart with 34 in the season. He also posted nine hits in 26 at-bats to stay in the batting chart throughout the season.

AJ Evangelista carried out a double play against Nakamura and Camacho to stop the Pirates in the third.

Then, the Falcons strengthened their defense all the way to the ball game with Lieto throwing four more strike outs to defend their lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, second baseman Jay Kalen drove in two runs with a single; relief first baseman JJ Lifoifoi drove in a run and centerfielder Frankie Lifoifoi blasted an RBI double as the Falcons rallied to put up a strong lead.

Relief third baseman Gerald Cabrera drove in two runs on catching error and the Falcons secured their victory, now eyeing for the championship on Friday next week.
