Saipan Little League holds back 50/70 division

THE Saipan Little League Baseball Inc. is holding back the 50-70 intermediate division at least for this season, due to lack teams with complete players’ documents.

Also in the Asia-Pacific Region, the intermediate division may not happen this year. The Korea Little League pledged to host the division for the 13 years old players in 2019, not this year.

The SLLBI has long been planning to have the 50/70 division but since the age limit also fits that of the junior division, coaches and managers ended up forming junior teams, only.

There were supposed to be teams being formed for the new Little League division but none of them were able to complete players’ documents, said SLLBI President Mike Borja.

Player agent Piding Tenorio said that the Comets and the WPTC Chief which were supposed to make a 50-70 debut now end up joining the junior league.

Instead of having the 50-70, Tenorio said this season will have the Comets 1, the Comets 2, the NSA Braves, the Talaabwogh Falcons and the WPTC Chiefs vying for the junior division championship title.

SLLBI also pushed the kickoff date to a later date due to inability of many of the teams so complete player documents. Instead of opening the season, the board will call for a managers and coaches meeting on Feb. 17 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.

Aside from the junior, major and senior league, this year’s baseball season will have minor league for players who are eight to nine years old.

The teams that have signed up for the division are the NSA Braves, Little Cubs, Comets and the Kagman Marlins.

In the major division for players who are 10 to 12 years old, the teams are the Team Bank of Saipan, Little Cubs, Pirates, the Little Legals, the Talaabwogh Falcons, the NSA Braves, Team McDonalds and the Comets.

The senior division teams for 15 to 16 years olds will be the NSA Braves, the Falcons and the Fielders.
