Atalig is MGA’s 2017 Ace of Aces

JJ Atalig celebrated his birthday touching once again the Marianas Golf Association Ace of Aces perpetual trophy.

Holding the three-foot trophy for the second time, the 2017 April Ace and the 2013 MGA Ace of Aces said he was happy to regain the title coveted every year by members of one of the biggest and most closely-knitted golf group on island.

A three-handicap bearer, Atalig shot the lowest gross, a 1-under, then, earned a 4-under par 68 net to rule the annual tournament at the the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s East Course on Saturday.

Trekking the front nine bogeyless with a birdie in Hole No. 9, Atalig tied up with February Ace Joe Kamikaze Camacho who also had a 1-under par in the first half.

Atalig beat the scratch player by two strokes in the back nine sinking birdies in Holes No. 16 and No. 17.

July Ace Jason Sablan finished with a net of 2-under par 70 to win the second place and August Ace Ned Norita, who improved to a 38 in the back nine, took the third place with a 1-under.

Jason Sablan also shot closest to the pin on Hole No. 4; new member, Patrick George in Hole No. 6; October Ace James Benavente in Hole No. 11 and June Ace Calvin Yamagishi in Hole No. 15.

The other MGA Aces and members who made it in the annual tournament were January Ace Dung Tenorio; May Ace, Gerald Guerrero who shot a 72; November Ace, Marco Peter who shot a 79 and December Ace Don Hallmark who shot a 72.

The monthly aces also received their awards at the banquet.

Paul Kaipat and Joey Dela Cruz shot a 73; Ray Aguon shot an 81; Sebastian Camacho shot a 75 and Geri Dela Cruz, shot a77.

The event also served as MGA’s January Ace of the Month tournament, the title for which also went to Atalig.
