Unearned runs help Fielders survive Falcons

THE Fielders who loaded the bases during an extra inning made it home to beat the Falcons for their second win in the regular season of the Saipan Little League Baseball’s junior division in Sunday’s game at the Francisco Tanko Palacios Baseball Field.

Earlier in the game the Fielders struggled in the hands of Falcons pitcher Pedro Maratita who shut them out four innings in a row.

The Falcons protected their two-run lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when a hit-by-pitch on first baseman Don Deleon Guerrero and two consecutive walks from catcher Trevon Lieto and centerfield Ignacio Mendiola led to a three unearned runs to hand the Fielders the lead.

Fielders’ starting pitcher Henry Fleming threw two of his five strike outs to help keep the lead to the sixth inning.

With Fernandez and Fio Pangelinan taking the go-ahead on walks, then, scoring runs the Falcons took the lead in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, third baseman Oren Cruz loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice, Deleon Guerrero tie the ball game with walk before Mendiola drove in the winning run on a fielder’s choice.
