Saipan Vegas, IT&E advance in Civic league

SAIPAN Vegas and IT&E made their way past the first round of the 2018 Civic Center Inter-color Basketball League playoffs after eliminating Hong Ye and Alamo during last Saturday’s game held at the Civic Center basketball court.

Saipan Vegas got the double-digit victory as they overpowered Alamo through the long run, 80-59.

Alamo matched up to Saipan Vegas at the opening quarter. Fred Pelisamen and Carl Aldan led the assault with a combined nine points.

However Saipan Vegas’ Junar Guiab used his strength to power his way inside for six points supported by the height of Paulo Sanguyo to hold the one-point lead 12-11.

Saipan Vegas started to gain control during the second half as the rest of the team started to make their contributions.

Their defensive stops handed Angelo Fernando, Sanguyo, Ryan Odicta and Almario the chance to push the distance putting up four points each while Alamo struggled 32-20.

No matter what Alamo cooked up, their empty possessions kept them behind as they handed Saipan Vegas easy buckets on the other end. Their biggest run came during the final quarter when James Kintz and Pelisamen caught on fire to produce double digits together but Fernando equalized with nine points alone to hold onto the comfortable distance leading to the blowout victory, 80-59.

IT&E 96, Hong Ye 68

Hong Ye was at a disadvantage as two of their main scorers were not able to make it leaving it to the hands of Sahagun.

Sahagun delivered in every quarter holding on to the fight for the first half.

But as soon as fatigue played its part, Hong Ye started to die out. They could not keep up with IT&E’s continuous pressure as they left a handful of openings for Ivan De Vero, Ehroll Peredo and Brendon Talania to explode offensively pushing a double digit gap 69-55 by the end of the third canto.

Sahagun lost his touch as he only made one triple during the final quarter while Richard Peredo finished strong with nine points to lead IT&E to the win 96-68.
