Saipan All-Stars clinch Little League major district title, Rota All-Stars take 50-70

THE Saipan All-Stars lived up to expectations over the weekend sweeping Rota and Tinian in the NMI Little League District Tournament.

Hosted by Rota, the district tournament included the 50-70 for the first time, with Rota beating Tinian.

In the major division, the championship game between Saipan and Rota was rained out.

The Saipan All-Stars who defeated both Rota and Tinian, were named the district champions and will advance to the Asia-Pacific Middle East Regional Tournament that will be held in Seoul, South Korea from June 29 to July 7.

The Saipan All-Stars blew Tinian out on Sunday with right fielder Cardi Borja blasting a two RBI double and second baseman Dylan Santos firing a two RBI single in his second at-bat as they rounded the bases twice in the bottom of the first inning.

First baseman Deandrey Cruz and centerfielder G-Boy Pangelinan homered in the third and the Saipan All-Stars routed Tinian, 21-3.

Saipan 10, Rota 0

Starting pitcher Jylon Sablan and relieve pitcher Gunner Sablan had four strike outs apiece to help the Saipan All-Stars blank Rota in the opening game on Friday.

Despite Rota’s tight defense, second base Destiny Pangelinan and relief pitcher Gunner Sablan drove in runs to put up a lead in the bottom of the second inning.

First baseman Benji Palacios fired a two RBI single in the third, catcher Joel Borja and right fielder Cardi Borja drove in runs on fielder’s choice secure the win.

Rota 13, Tinian 0

50-70 Intermediate

In the 50-70 finals, the Rota All-Stars shut Tinian out to win the district crown.

First baseman Manglona had two RBI single in the first, catcher Payton Manglona and Andre had RBI apiece in the second.

First baseman Manglona added two RBI triple and Andre an RBI single.
