THE Ol’ Aces Real Deal had perfect season to secure the championship title of the 2018 Francisco M. Diaz Memorial Youth Basketball League U18 Division preventing the huge upset against the 670 Sonics XVIII, 63-56 last Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.

Real Deal had a strong first half performance as they maintained a double digit spread.

They fed off defensive stops holding the Sonics to just eight points while N-Nes Siech, Dean Blake and Coby Santos led the fast break runs to gain the safe distance 18-8.

More of the same was seen throughout the second quarter as Sonics’ output was minimized to just nine points which gave Real Deal the chance to put the game out of reach 40-16.

Despite the overwhelming stretch, the Sonics never showed signed of defeat as they worked their way back within sight.

The Sonics had much stronger second half especially on the defensive end.

They closed out all driving lanes forcing a handful of turnovers for June Alipio and Jude Tengco to capitalize cutting the deficit back within just 10 points 40-50.

The Ol’ Aces were at awe as they continued to struggle letting control slip out of their hand after Khristian Itaas’ transition from defense to offense 56-54.

The Sonics had the chance to extend the gap with another successful stop but Paulo Rafols failed to finish inside.

Ol’Aces’ Coby Santos then retaliated from beyond the arc regaining the one-point advantage giving the team the sense of comfort.

The Sonics tried to fight back but their inability to secure the defensive rebound kept them behind as the Ol’ Aces played safe using the clock as their friend to secure the win 63-56.

The CT Law Rollers bagged the third place title as they slipped past the 670 Sonics XVI 57-52.
