NMI junior netters in winning streak

THE NMI junior netters are a few matches away from winning 2018 ITF OTF North Pacific Regional Championships division titles as they continue to have great success after the fourth day of the event in Guam.

No. 1 seeded Seung Jin Paik, Sam Ryu, Malika Miyawaki and No. 1 Coume Kaga were in a winning streak in their respective divisions.

Paik secured the final berth in the U14 boys’ singles with a win against No. 4 Guam’s Dakota Gibson, 6-1, 7-6. Paik easily made it to the semis against Guam’s Aarman Sachdev, 6-0, 6-2.

In the U16 boys’ singles, Sam Ryu posted his fourth triumph over fellow NMI player, Eugene Park 6-2, 6-1. On Wednesday, he beat Federated States of Micronesia’s Andy Sipos, 6-3, 6-0.

Miyawaki kept her winning streak by sweeping Guam’s Aprile Kim, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the U16 girls’ singles.

Top-seeded Kaga made it to the final round by dominating No. 2 Guam’s Kaia Malakooti, 6-2, 6-1.

After a 6-1, 6-2 loss to FSM’s Anne Skilling in the second day, NMI’s Maria Gregoire bounced back and continued to hold on in the U16 girls’ singles with two straight wins over Guam’s Paige Mantanona, 6-2, 6-0, on Wednesday, and over Guam’s Joycelyn Tenai, 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday.
